E-mail Policy
Mail Limits
You are limited to sending a maximum of 500 e-mail messages per hour, per domain. Any mailing lists you have set up are included within this limit. For example, if you have a mailing list with 50 members, and you or one of your list members sends an e-mail to the list, that e-mail will count as 50 e-mails. If an attempt is made to send more than 500 e-mails in any 1 hour period, the excess mails will not be delivered and will bounce back to the sender.
We recommend that you do not check your e-mail accounts for new mail any more frequently than once every 2 minutes. The system will allow you to check your e-mail accounts a maximum of once every minute. Attempts to check for new mail more frequently than this will result in the system locking you out. If you do find yourself locked out, simply wait 1 hour for the system to reset. You will then be able to access your e-mail again.
Mailing List Rules
- Using mailing lists has the potential to create a lot of load on the server. This is why many hosting companies do not support the use of mailing lists in a shared server environment.
We strongly recommend that you do not use Mailman (the default mailing list manager) to set up lists greater than 100 members. If you set up larger lists, you will impact the server’s performance and run the risk of having your account suspended or terminated (as per the Terms & Conditions). If you require larger lists, you should opt to use phplist, which is available in your control panel under fantastico. phplist has the ability to throttle mails to spread the load, rather than sending all mails at once. You can dictate the rate at which it does this, and we recommend setting it to no more than 1 mail every 6 seconds.
_ - There is an upper limit of 500 members allowed per mailing list. Note: dividing one large list into smaller lists to get around this rule is not allowed.
_ - You are not allowed to set up a mailing list which consists of e-mail addresses that you harvested without permission, were given to you by a third party, or that you purchased from a third party. This is spam, and will result in immediate termination of your account with no refund. You may only use our mailing lists to contact people who have given their express permission for you to contact them.
_ - Any unsolicited e-mail being sent will result in immediate termination of the offending account with no refund. We take a zero tolerance stance against the sending of unsolicited e-mail.
_ - As the servers are housed in the U.S., any mailing list MUST comply with all guidelines set forth by the United States government. These can be found at: http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/business/ecommerce/bus61.shtm
_ - No Direct SMTP mailers are allowed. An example of this is DarkMailer. Any mail should be relayed through the local MTA (localhost:25) for further delivery by the server and not done directly by scripts.
